Are you putting what’s really important to you at the center of your life?
I’ve come to think that this is a critical question for each of us, and our society, and one that is often overlooked.
Starting to put what’s really important at the center – of life, work, organisations and society, is what I call becoming Life.Centered.
Becoming Life.Centered is the basic principle behind all the different work I do. (You can read more about that here)
The acorn, the gong, and the water drop
Imagine an oak tree, or better still go visit one (it’s the perfect time in UK). Enjoy the size, the branches, the trunk. Sense the deep roots spreading everywhere.
Notice how in some mysterious way the whole tree arose from a single acorn. Somehow the original acorn already included or implied the whole tree.
Imagine a gong being struck (or go bang one!) Can you sense the same idea? The sound reverberates in every direction from a single moment and place – the precise point when stick meets metal. BOINNGGGG!
Now find (or imagine) a still pool. Let a single drop of water fall into it. Enjoy the ripples, the movement, expanding out all around, from that single point and precise moment.
All of life radiates out from a single moment, a single point.
Once you see it you can start to notice this same principle operating everywhere.
Life radiates from a single point, a single moment
In our lives, groups and organisations, that single point is not so easy to spot. Things get complicated and complex. We feel pulled this way and that. We get conflicted and confused.
“I’m not an oak tree, Tim”, you may say. “I’m not a gong, or a drop of water”.
Well sure, not literally.
But what if this principle – that life radiates out from a single, central point, is universal?
What if in some sense – not so easy to see, but still important, you are like the oak tree?
What if your life is continually unfolding from a central intention or core principle?
If that were true, discovering how to put what is really important at the center – of life, work, organisations and society becomes very important.
That’s the core idea behind what I do – the invitation to become Life.Centered.
To help each of us find the clarity, courage and commitment to put what really matters to us at the center of our life, work, organisations and society. And then to trust and nurture the life, work, organisation and society that emerges from that place.
The beauty and impact of becoming Life.Centered
It’s beautiful and uplifting to see an oak tree.
It’s so rich and resonant to hear a gong.
It’s peaceful and relaxing to watch the ripples spread on a pool.
The more you become Life.Centered, putting what really matters to you at the center of your choices, actions, communication and plans, the more you’ll carry that same beauty, richness and peace naturally into your own life, and into the world.
How will you bring more of what really matters to you to the very center of your Life this week?

ps: those of you in the UK may wonder about the spelling of center rather than centre. It’s a long story – but basically most of the world outside UK uses center, and I think it looks nicer overall as part of Life.Centered.
pps: learning to clarify, trust and create from the essence of what really matters to you, is at the heart of the 1 to 1 coaching I do. You can read more about that here.
